APRIL IS ROSACEA AWARENESS MONTH

Aging is something we all hope to conquer as gracefully as possible. However, some skin changes and conditions are not as easy to manage as others. One condition in particular, with more than 3 million cases each year, is rosacea. Have you been noticing increased redness in your skin, mostly in the cheeks, along with some swollen red bumps or visible blood vessels? It is possible you could be experiencing rosacea.

WHAT IS ROSACEA?

According to the Mayo Clinic, rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that commonly affects the face, and is often mistaken for severe acne. It can occur in anyone, however, is most prevalent in middle-aged women with fair skin complections.

WHAT TRIGGERS ROSACEA?

The cause of rosacea is still unknown, however science is discovering that it could be a combination of hereditary and environmental factors. With that being the case, a number of triggers have been found to exacerbate symptoms or even trigger a rosacea flare up by increasing blood flow to the surface of your skin.

The Mayo Clinic lists some of these triggers as:

  • Hot drinks or spicy foods
  • Alcohol
  • Extreme temperatures, along with sunlight or wind
  • Emotional triggers
  • Exercise or physical exertion
  • Certain cosmetics
  • Prescription medications that can dilate blood vessels, including blood pressure meds

WHAT ARE SOME TREATMENTS FOR ROSACEA?

While there is no cure, treatments have been discovered to help manage and reduce the symptoms of rosacea flare-ups in those who are living with this condition. This often includes combining skin care with prescription treatments. One skin treatment that we would recommend is the HydraFacial Rozatrol® Booster Serum.

This antioxidant-rich, super serum is specifically designed to target the blood vessels and inflammation associated with rosacea and has shown powerful results in alleviating the symptoms of this inflammatory condition – leading to bright, rejuvenated, and glowing skin.

If you feel you could be experiencing rosacea, the first step is seeing one of our board-certified physician in our clinic to see if you have this condition. They will do a full skin evaluation and will recommend what treatment combinations will work best, based on your skin concerns and lifestyle.
